Savage expands Model 64 line with easy takedown model (PHOTOS)

Billed as ideal for a backpack gun, camp gun or just a compact plinker, the newest Model 64 takes down for easy storage in the included nylon Uncle Mike’s bag. (Photos: Savage)

Long a staple of the rifle maker’s catalog, the .22LR-caliber Model 64 now comes in a takedown design. New for 2019, the Model 64 Takedown blends the features loved about the simple and reliable semi-auto rimfire with an easy takedown design complete with a 16.5-inch barrel and Uncle Mike’s Bug-Out Bag.

As with the rest of the series, the straight-blowback autoloading action is fed by a detachable 10-round box magazine. Weight is a handy 4.5-pounds and the rifle, when assembled, is 36.25-inches long overall.

The Model 64 Takedown features a simple to use barrel nut making for a no-tools-required disassembly. Note the adjustable rear sight

The rifle is made by Savage Arms in Canada, comes in standard matte black with a synthetic stock, and is drilled and tapped for scope mounts. Available in left or right-hand models, MSRP is $249. This puts it a good deal less than Ruger’s 10/22 Takedown models. The rifle is now shipping.
