New Springfield Armory Commander-Sized Ronin Operator 1911 in .45 ACP, 9mm

Sporting a 4.25-inch barrel, Springfield Armory’s latest M1911-style pistol, the Commander-length Ronin Operator, just hit the market.

The Illinois-based company introduced its full-sized GI-length Ronin Operator earlier this year and is now following up with the lighter, more compact variant that offers the same features for less than $900. The pistol uses a forged carbon steel slide, lightweight alloy frame, and a forged 4.25-inch match-grade barrel.

“Since its release earlier this year, the full-size Ronin Operator has been extremely popular due to its combination of impressive features and pricing,” says Steve Kramer, Vice President of Marketing for Springfield Armory. “The new Ronin Operator 4.25 adds a lighter, more compact option for those who love carrying the legendary 1911.”

Using a traditional barrel bushing and a fully supported and ramped barrel, the Ronin series is billed as reliable and consistent. Standard features include a beavertail grip safety with a “memory bump,” a fiber optic front/tactical rack rear sight, and extended safety lever. Added to this are laminate wood grips, a flat mainspring housing, forward slide serrations, and SA’s 2nd Generation Speed Trigger.

When it comes to weight, the 8+1 capacity .45ACP Ronin Operator variant tips the scales at 29.5-ounces and 31-ounces in the 9+1 capacity 9mm variant.

The MSRP on the Ronin Operator is $849, a price that should be less at retailers.
