Springfield Armory is doubling down on its refined defensive 1911 offering by ditching its standard two-tone look for a more noir variant.

Springfield introduced the Emissary line in July 2021, then billed as blending defensive and custom pistols to create a striking Government-length .45 ACP railgun that looks great while still being very capable. Since then, it has been expanded with 9mm and Commander-length models that all kept a two-tone finish, with a blued carbon-steel slide over a stainless-steel frame with a squared trigger guard.

Now, for those who prefer a sleeker format via an all-over black Cerakote finish, Springfield has the Emissary in four new variants across 4.25 and 5-inch barrel lengths and chambered in either 9mm or .45.

As with previous Emissary pistols, the new gun carries a "Tri-Top" cut to the slide and runs a bushing-less heavy stainless-steel bull barrel with a one-piece full-length guide rod.

The texture is on-tap via a grip that is fully wrapped in grenade-pattern slimline G10 VZ grips that match the machining on the mainspring housing and front strap.

The "Tri-Top" cut slide includes a glare-reducing flattened top strap finished with 40 LPI serrations, while the tritium and luminescent front sight pairs with a Tactical Rack U-Dot rear.

"These four variants add a unique new look to the popular Emissary line of 1911 pistols," says Steve Kramer,  Springfield's VP of Marketing. "With this all-black finish, shooters now have four new appealing options for a defensive handgun with an additional measure of refinement."

MSRP for each of the four new variants is $1,378.

We've got our very own Grandslam Ronbo working hard in "Area 51" somewhere in the Arizona desert on a review of the new all-black Emissary, so look out for that in the coming weeks.
