Based in Geneseo, Illinois, Springfield Armory is a cutting-edge company with a rich history. They are a gun manufacturer and importer that delivers innovative products made with high-quality materials.
Springfield Armory is an award-winning firearms manufacturer and importer that takes its namesake from America's first armory. Created at the instruction of George Washington in 1777, the original Armory was located in Springfield, Massachusetts. The U.S. Government eventually closed the Armory in 1968, but the name endured.
Now based in Geneseo, Illinois, the company embraces the same rights and principles set forth by the Founding Fathers more than 200 years ago, while the original site of the country's first federal armory has renewed life as the Springfield Armory National Historic Site, a historical museum that houses the world's largest U.S. military small arms collection.
Used by military and security and law enforcement personnel across the world as well as professional competitive shooters, Springfield Armory manufactures firearms that are known for being both durable and reliable. Their handguns include the ever-popular 1911, as well as the XD line.
Springfield Armory is known worldwide for their first-class 1911 handguns, which were first manufactured over 30 years ago. The company now offers the 1911 in over a dozen different variants, including lightweight and compact models. Among the best-selling 1911 handguns is the 1911 EMP 4", which earned the NRA American Rifleman's Women's innovation Product of the Year in 2017.
Perhaps some of Springfield Armory's most well-known pistols come from their XD series. Short for "X-Treme-Duty," the XD was initially introduced in 2001. Since then, the company has continued to make improvements on this polymer pistol design, and now offers the XD(M), XD-S, and XD-E, in addition to the original XD.
Both of these handgun lines – the 1911 and the XD series – are chambered in 9mm, 40 S&W, 45 ACP, and 10mm.
Also popular is the 911, a scaled-down model of the 1911. Chambered in 9mm and 380 ACP, it is built on an aluminum frame and features a 2.7" barrel, tritium front and U-notch rear sights, ambidextrous safety, and G10 Thinline grips.
Springfield Armory pistols vary in price, depending on the model, features, and other factors. Several XD models can be purchased new for around $300, while some 1911 pistols are well over $1,000.
