New: Colt Python .357 Magnum in 2.5- and 5-Inch Barrel Lengths
Colt continues to grow its family tree of the reborn Python six-shot revolver line to now include models covering a half dozen barrel lengths ranging from 2.5 to 8 inches.
Long seen as the "Cadillac of .357 Magnum Revolvers," the Python was first introduced in 1955 and concluded its original run in 2006. Bowing to overwhelming customer demand for a return of its most popular "snake gun," Colt resurrected the design, equipped with a laundry list of subtle design improvements, in 2020.
Now, with the addition of the newest models, the current Python catalog stands at 15 models between the assorted barrel lengths (2.5, 3, 4.25, 5, 6, and 8 inches), finishes (Classic, Matte, Blued) and special packages (Combat Elite, Target).
2.5 Inch
Long considered one of the ultimate factory .357 Magnum snub-nosed revolvers, the 2.5-inch Colt Python was an icon of the old-school wheel gun aficionado – and one that Guns.com publicly asked the company to return to production. We're not saying they listened to us, but gratefully the 2.5 is back, listed in both Classic and Matte formats for 2024, both with target-style adjustable sights.

The Matte has a matte finish and OverMolded rubber grips. The overall length on both 2.5-inch models is 8 inches while the weight of the all-steel revolver is 39 ounces.
5 Inch
The newest 5-inch Python models, offered in both Classic and Matte versions, have an overall length of 10.5 inches and an unloaded weight of 43.3 ounces.
