In honor of the 80th anniversary of D-Day, this week on Two Guys One Gun we ask the question, “What gun would you want to trust if you were fighting in Normandy?”

World War II was fought by the greatest generation, and their courage, honor, and service will never be forgotten. Operation Overlord was a complex invasion of France, marking a point where the Allies began to push the Germans out of Europe.

The complicated operation had two major phases: one from the beach and one from the sky. It might drastically change the options, depending on if you were charging bunkers in the sand or jumping out of an airplane.

World War II pushed U.S. firearms manufacturing to produce some of the most iconic designs in American History. At the same time, it was a different era with bigger cartridges and heavier firearms. By the time the D-Day operation took place in 1944, many notable designs were in use. This is also true for the Allies as a whole, fielding some of the most recognizable rifles, handguns, and machine guns the world would ever see.

While it is fun to think of what would be the go-to if we were there, we should never forget or downplay the suffering and sacrifices made by those who were there. Countless generations were saved from tyranny by those who sacrificed their youth to fight for what is right.
