Clocking in at some 50 ounces, the new steel-framed (not a misprint) SIG Sauer P320 competition pistol has Max Michel's stamp of approval.

The new P320 XFive SXG runs a 5-inch bull barrel, interchangeable 1911-style springs, and a solid-steel SXG grip module with G10 LOK grip panels. The newest pistol in SIG's catalog is built for competition use, and Michel, who is Team SIG's captain, plans to use it this season.

Guns.com was able to catch up with Michel and the new SXG at SIG's Next event in New Hampshire last week.

The new P320 XFive SXG has a very 1911-ish overall length of 8.5 inches, while its unloaded weight is 49.5 ounces. Note the bead-blasted finish on the stainless frame and slide. (All photos: Chris Eger/Guns.com)

The slide is factory milled for a red dot (DeltaPoint Pro pattern direct mount) and has fiber-optic front sights and an adjustable rear sight. Note the flat-face trigger and extended beavertail grip.

It mounted SIG's new Romeo 3 Max PRO red dot, which has a very Trijicon SRO-sized window. The optic, sporting an aspheric lens, is crystal clear and sits exceptionally low on the slide.

The platform was built with performance and recoil mitigation in mind, hitting the range with 21+1 rounds of 9mm.

The P320 XFive SXG will be hitting retailers later this year in the $1,799 range and will ship with a trio of 21-round steel magazines. The Romeo 3 Max PRO will be in the $699 range.
