Tennessee-based Smith & Wesson is offering a new modernized version of its Model 1854 cowboy carbine for 2025.

Whereas the 1854 lever-action rifle made its debut last year in two traditional variants-- both in .44 Magnum/Special – and added a .45 Colt chambering to the mix few months ago, the new Stealth Hunter adds both features and new calibers to the company's selection.

Review: Smith & Wesson Model 1854, an Unexpected Tactical Cowboy

The S&W Model 1854 Stealth Hunter will be offered in a choice between .357 Magnum/.38 Special, 44 Mag/Special, and 45 Colt. With a large loop lever, T6 aluminum handguard with 15 M-LOK slots, and extended Picatinny top rail for optics added to a platform made smaller due to a compact 16.3-inch barrel, the Stealth Hunter is shorter and offers sportsmen more capability than other 1854s.

The 1854 Stealth Hunter
The overall length of the 1854 Stealth Hunter is a handy 33.4 inches due to its 16.3-inch threaded barrel. Note the oversized lever loop, polymer stock, and HIVIZ H3 fiber optic front sight balanced by a XS Sights adjustable rear ghost ring sight.

Weight is in the 6.5-pound range, unloaded and without accessories. Other features include a crossbolt safety, a removable magazine tube for easy unloading, and a flat trigger design. All three caliber options include an eight-shot magazine capacity.

The 1854 Stealth Hunter screams for use in the field and is both optics and suppressor-ready.

The MSRP of the new S&W Model 1854 Stealth Hunter across all three calibers is $1,399. This compares well to the standard models, which start at $1,279.

We'll be sure to check out this interesting new lever gun at SHOT Show later this month, so stay tuned.
