Some companies upgrade a product here and there, maybe even launching a new gun every few years. Then there’s Mossberg. The company known for affordable yet reliable shotguns, rifles, and pistols didn’t miss a beat this year.

At SHOT Show 2025 in Las Vegas, Mossberg put plenty of new and updated guns in the hands of its fans. Here’s what we found when we stopped by to visit.

Mossberg Patriot Carbine

The idea is so simple, yet it’s still awfully exciting. It’s like the way older adults get enthused about new socks or a good bed pillow. Mossberg’s Patriot series of bolt-action rifles has long been one of the best budget buys on the market.

Now, as trends are leaning toward shorter lengths and suppressor-ready threaded barrels, the company’s Patriot Carbine hit just in time.

Most barrel lengths are shortened to either 16.25 or 18 inches, though several magnums use 20-inchers. The Patriot Carbines on display at SHOT Show this year featured medium bull barrels threaded at the expected twist for each caliber.

The dropbox magazine, LBA user-adjustable trigger, spiral-fluted bolt, and recessed match crown all remain. However, the addition of a Picatinny rail makes it easy to add an optic.

Chamberings so far include .22-250 Rem, .308 Win, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC, 7mm PRC, .300 Win Mag, .350 Legend, and .450 Bushmaster. MSRP on the synthetic-stocked carbines sits at $515.

940 Pro Tactical SPX

Mossberg’s tactical semi-auto shotgun first debuted in the 940 Pro series as the 940 Pro Tactical back in 2022. That one was so well received that the company has doubled down with an even more specialized variant.

The new-for-2025 Pro Tactical SPX was on display with five fresh SKUs. The 12-gauge semi-automatic SPX comes with a tubular magazine capacity of either five or eight shells. The ghost-ring rear sight mates to a fiber-optic front with protective wings. There’s even a variant with a Holosun HS407K optic that comes factory mounted, though the gun also includes iron sights.

The 940 Pro Tactical SPX is marketed as a “true fighting tactical shotgun.” The new forend includes a heat shield, two QD ports, and three M-LOK slots. A Vang Comp six-shotshell carrier card is included with the hook-and-loop attachment system for ammo management and rapid reloads.

The oversized safety, knurled charging handle, and ergonomic bolt release all received some minor tweaks. The length of pull is adjustable by 1.75 inches using the spacer system. A Cerakote finish in either FDE or OD Green, graces several variants.

590R & 590RM Rotary Safety Shotguns

New for 2025 is a pair of beefed-up pump-action shotguns. Mossberg knows plenty about dominating the slide-action space from decades of success with the Models 500 and other pump scatterguns.

The 590R series feature rotary safety selectors as the newest additions to the tactical end of the pump family.

Mossberg did more than just adopt a rotary safety over its traditional tang safety. It also redesigned the more compact, ergonomic forend and integrated, full-length, single-piece heat shield over the barrel.

While the 590R uses a more standard tubular magazine, the 590RM feeds off of detachable 10-round magazines. There’s also a flat-bladed trigger, Picatinny rail, and Magpul MBUS3 sights on select models. The same dual extractors, steel-to-steel lockup, twin action bars, and anti-jam elevator remain.

Final Additions

In addition to the above, Mossberg threw in a few other less attention-grabbing additions. The 940 Pro Turkey can now be had as a Holosun/Indian Creek combo. That wicked gobbler setup wears a Holosun HS507K X2 optic and an Indian Creek Diamond Strike ported extended choke tube.

In smaller bores, the semi-auto SA-410 Turkey can now be had with a shorter barrel and without the pistol grip found on earlier models.

On the “professional” end, Mossberg drummed up even more shotgun offerings for its law enforcement and military partners. Those organizations can grab multiple variants of the 590A1, 590M Breacher, and 940 Pro Tactical in professional series.

Whether it’s a protector, professional, hunter, provider, or do-all shotgun or rifle, Mossberg has a history of commitment to its customers. The Connecticut-based company has been around since 1919 and continues to pair reliability with affordability.
