The 590R combines Mossberg's the tried and true pump action with modern ergonomics seen in today's duty and service rifles. The 590R features a new rotary safety, giving the controls a similar feel to modern service and sporting rifles like the AR-15 platform. The 590R also features a pistol grip for better ergonomics along with a buffer tube adapter and collapsible stock for better use with body armor while also allowing for easy adjustment between shooters of all sizes. For added protection, a heat shield comes standard on every model to protect against burns under heavy volumes of fire. A 1913 Picatinny rail on the receiver and front end of the barrel allows for quick attachment of optics.
The Stand-Off variant features an extended barrel with a stand-off muzzle designed allow for safe breaching of doors and locked rooms without damage to the firearm when using specialized ammunition and utilizes a fixed Cylinder choke. This model is chambered in 12-gauge and features an all-black finish. The magazine tube sports a 6-shot capacity.
