Smith & Wesson continues to grow its 1854 lever-action cowboy rifle line, debuting the gun in a hard-hitting .45-70 Government chambering this week in two formats.

Smith went back to its roots with the 1854 last year, debuting the lever-action rifle in .44 Magnum/Special, soon followed by the classic .45 Colt and a .357 Magnum/.38 Special chambering. Importantly, the newest variant is the first not chambered in a revolver caliber but rather in the iconic .45-70, a prestigious rifle round that boasts a straight-walled case more than 2 inches long.

Available in two configurations, users have the choice of a black polymer and stainless-steel finish or a walnut stock paired with an Armornite finish. Each model has a 20-inch threaded (11/16x24 TPI) barrel and a 6+1 capacity under-barrel magazine tube.
