The company that brought us the Yeet Cannon is looking to break into the budget AR-15 market with its new HP-15 rifle and pistols, set to launch later this year. David Kiwacka from Hi-Point was on hand at NRAAM in Atlanta last weekend to show us what the company has in the works.

The HP-15 is planned in a standard 16-inch rifle model and two 10.5-inch pistol variants. The pistol will be offered in 5.56 and .300 BLK, with the rifle just in 5.56 for now. The guns use mil-spec components with a polished trigger and hammer for a bit of an edge, offering a platform that’s easy to upgrade with aftermarket parts. The goal is to provide customers a solid entry-level AR that’s also a canvas they can build out to their liking.

“We want to give people who have Hi-Point carbines – in 9mm or whatever caliber – when they want to upgrade into a rifle caliber, we now have an option and solution for you, whether it’s a pistol or rifle,” Kiwacka explained.

The HP-15s all feature a free-floated M-LOK handguard with an A2 birdcage flash hider.

The 5.56 rifle and pistol run on a carbine-length gas system, while the .300 Blackout pistol uses a pistol-length gas system.

“That thing is really ready for a suppressor to rock and roll,” Kiwacka noted.

Hi-Point promises an MSRP under $500 on all models, and the guns are expected to start shipping in June.
