Tennessee-based Smith & Wesson unveiled a duo of tactical plinkers chambered for .22 LR today: the M&P 22X pistol and FPC 22LR folding carbine. The move expands the company’s long-standing M&P pistol line while adding to the growing FPC family, which also recently gained a hard-hitting 10mm option.

The two guns were designed for easy cross-platform compatibility, with the M&P 22X and FPC 22LR sharing the same 20-round magazines and familiar M&P ergonomics, flat-faced trigger, and grip texture. Both guns now offer easy access to budget-friendly training ammo for the flagship handgun and carbine offerings.

Smith & Wesson’s FPC 22LR features a slim design that’s made even more compact by the gun’s unique folding mechanism. That also sets it up as a fantastic .22 LR backpack-ready option with a generous capacity of 20+1 and storage space in the buttstock for two additional mags.

Meanwhile, the new M&P 22X features an internal hammer, a slim grip, and feeds on the same magazines as the FPC 22LR. That makes it a win for anyone looking to support a tactically inclined pistol and carbine pairing chambered for the affordable and low-recoiling .22 LR.

The M&P 22X comes optics-ready and includes a fiber-optic front sight. The full-size polymer-framed pistol sports a weight of just 1.02 pounds. Though it’s not yet listed on the company’s website, the launch imagery shows the M&P 22X can also be had with a threaded barrel, which is a win for any gun chambered in .22 LR these days. MSRP for the new FPC 22LR carbine comes in at a reasonable $549. The M&P 22X pistol is listed at an MSRP of $499.
