Mossberg’s rotary-safety 590R/RM pump-action shotguns are now available with premium folding stocks from Chisel Machining, including a Class 3/NFA short-barrel option for the magazine-fed 590RM.

We reviewed both the tube-fed 590R and mag-fed 590RM in a head-to-head comparison last year, but the addition of folding Chisel stocks and a short-barreled version brings an entirely new compact element to the line.

Both the 590R Chisel and 590RM Chisel – Class 3 will feature FDE Cerakote receivers and rear Picatinny-mounted eight-position Chisel folding stocks. The 590R/RM line’s claim to fame is the addition of the more ergonomic rotary safety, which makes it far easier to run with a pistol grip.

The 590R Chisel will host an 18.5-inch barrel and integrated heat shield, 3-inch chamber, and 6+1 capacity. The 590RM Chisel – Class 3 will come with an 11.5-inch barrel, 2.75-inch chamber, and 10+1 capacity, thanks to its detachable box magazine.

Other shared features include the ambidextrous rotary safety selector, Magpul MOE+ pistol grip, suppressor-ready Accu-Choke System, flat-profile trigger, top Picatinny rail for optics, elongated bolt release, and E-coated internal and external receiver. (Image: Mossberg)

The Mossberg-designed stocks offer an adjustable length of pull between 12.5 and 16.5 inches, with two-sided QD cups for sling mounting.

MSRP on the 590R Chisel is set at $1,330. The ask for the short-barreled 590RM Chisel – Class 3 is $1,435.
