Weatherby Claims Lightest Production Bolt Action Ever: New Mark V Backcountry Capra
Just in time for SHOT Show 2026, Weatherby has dropped what it’s advertising as the “lightest production bolt-action rifle ever made.” The new ultralight Mark V Backcountry Capra starts at a mere 4 pounds and sports a custom Peak 44 Bridger stock.
According to Weatherby, the idea behind the Backcountry Capra was the answer the question: “How light can a rifle be without sacrificing accuracy, shootability, or durability?”

The designers came up with a rifle built around Weatherby's six-lug short and six-lug standard titanium Mark V actions. The thin contour barrel features double spiral fluting that forms a super strong and light double helix design. Plus, it’s threaded and comes with an Accubrake ST installed.
Weatherby partnered with Peak 44 on the new Bridger stock.
The new Bridger stock was developed in partnership with Peak 44 and scraps the hinged floorplate of the ultralight Blacktooth stock, introducing Weatherby’s first commercially available blind magazine Mark V. Along with weight-saving cutouts and a shortened forend, this makes for an ergonomic ultralight platform.
With a rifle this light, recoil becomes a concern, and Weatherby addressed the issue with a 3D Hex recoil pad with a honeycomb design that absorbs kick. The Capra also features a TriggerTech trigger, and all metal parts are Cerakoted for durability in tough conditions. Here’s a look at the new platform from Weatherby:
