Tennessee-based S&W has a new variant of the M&P9 M2.0 Metal series that comes with a direct milled slide cut for the popular Aimpoint ACRO enclosed red dot optic.

The Swedish-made ACRO, or Advanced Combat Reflex Optic, was first introduced by Aimpoint in 2018 as the company's first fully enclosed red-dot sight, designed specifically for pistols. It has since become a benchmark in the industry for a "bomb-proof" sight. The current standard, the P-2, arrived in 2021 with a host of quiet upgrades, followed by the more compact C-1 and C-2. Since then, other optics makers have introduced enclosed dots on the same footprint (Burris FastFire E, Steiner MPS, Viridian RFX45, etc.), giving consumers more options.

Before this month, the only way to put an ACRO on an S&W M&P was via a plate system. That changes with the new direct-cut M&P9 M2.0 Metal released this month. We've reviewed the Metal line extensively and have always been happy with it, with the more rigid metal frame bringing superior performance to the M&P experience. So you get that performance and standard features – the updated M2.0 flat-face trigger, optic-height night sights, and 17-round magazines – now with the ACRO capability.

The unloaded weight is 30 ounces, which is only a couple of ounces heavier than the comparable polymer-framed M&P9 M2.0 in the same barrel length.

The move by Smith to release an ACRO version of one of its pistols puts it in the same club as Archon, Glock, Shadow Systems, Walther, and Infinity, so price is relative. Speaking of which, the MSRP of the new ACRO-ready (but not included) S&W M&P9 M2.0 Metal is $949.

The pistol ships with two 17-round magazines.
