The Huxwrx Flow 762 Ti is full-auto rated and compatible with 5.56, 6.5, and 7.62 platforms with no barrel restrictions. This fully 3D-printed can is constructed of grade 5 titanium, the strongest available, weighs just 11.8 ounces, and is 6.7 inches long.
An honorable mention goes to the Flow 9K Ti. While it’s designed for 9mm, the Flow 9k Ti is one of the most versatile suppressors on the market – rated for .17 HMR, .22 LR, 5.7x28, 9mm, .300 Blackout (sub and supersonic, with no barrel restriction), and .350 Legend.
The Dead Air Sandman X is constructed of Haynes 282, a metal mix used in rocket nozzles. This is a heavy use, full-auto rated suppressor with no barrel length restrictions. Rated up to .300 RUM, this suppressor is designed to handle 4,200 foot-pounds of pressure at the muzzle. The Sandman X is fitted with either the Keymo or Xeno QD attachment system.
The SilencerCo Omega 300 is a lightweight, full-auto rated .30-caliber can that claims to be the best-selling suppressor ever, period. This multi-caliber suppressor is rated from .223 Rem/5.56 NATO up to .300 WM and warrantied for short barrels down to 7 inches for .300 Blackout. The Omega 300 uses SilencerCo's Bravo-style mounting system and ships with a 5/8x24 Bravo direct-thread mount, Bravo basic tool, Bravo multitool, and a .30-cal Bravo anchor brake.
The Anechoic AnechoX 30L weighs only 10 ounces, is just 8 inches long, and is still full-auto rated. The can is rated for heavy use for calibers from 5.7mm to .300 RUM. It features a 17-4 stainless-steel blast chamber, HUB-compatible threads, and comes with a direct-thread mount.
The SIG Hexium .300 BLK titanium suppressor is designed with low backpressure in mind as well as sound suppression. The Hexium is HUB-compatible with a direct thread steel mount to help provide a quick and easy mounting solution, and it features a modular end cap design for an accessory mounting system. The can gets its name from the hexagonal pattern that provides a good grip texture.
The titanium Banish 30 is a direct-thread .30-caliber can rated for everything from rimfire .17 calibers up to .300 Weatherby Magnum. It's modular, morphing from 7 to 9 inches in its compact and full-sized configurations, weighing 11 or 14 ounces respectively. The newer Banish 30-V2 is another great option that trims a full inch and 2 ounces from the previous design and hosts updated threads for industry-standard 1.375x24-HUB mounts.
The Nomad-30 is a multi-caliber rifle suppressor capable of everything up to .300 Win Mag. At just 6.5 inches long, it uses 17-4 stainless steel and Grade 5 titanium to keep weight down to 14 ounces, which is a few ounces less than Dead Air's full-auto-rated Sandman. The Nomad ships direct-threaded with 5/8x24 threads but is compatible with Dead Air’s Key-Mo quick attach system and Sandman front caps.
The HUB-compatible Gemtech Neutron 7.62 uses a mixture of stainless-steel baffles with a titanium body construction to create a light but durable suppressor. The proprietary baffle system reduces the sound signature and cuts down on backpressure, reducing gas vented into the shooter's face. This .30-caliber suppressor is 6.6 inches long, weighs 14.6 ounces, and is rated for calibers up to .300 Winchester Magnum.
SUBSONIC VS. SUPERSONIC CARTRIDGES
In the early 1980s, the Soviets introduced the 9x39mm round and a few select 9x39mm firearms. This was the first round designed from the ground up as a subsonic rifle cartridge.
“Subsonic” simply means the bullet travels at a slower speed than the sound barrier (<1,100 fps). Subsonic cartridges use heavier grain bullets that can have lighter powder loads, making them slower. When paired with a suppressor, subsonic rounds are very quiet. That’s because there is no supersonic crack, which accounts for a high decibel rating in normal rifle cartridges.
The West was a little behind the 8-ball when it came to subsonic cartridges. The 5.56 NATO round was far too light and fast to have a subsonic loading that would feed reliably. In the 1990s, the .300 Whisper wildcat cartridge (a custom cartridge that was not made for mass production) was introduced to address subsonic needs for western suppressed firearms.
Unfortunately, as this wildcat cartridge was designed to fit what was more of a niche, there was no major market for .300 Whisper.
THE .300 BLACKOUT
Around 2009, Advanced Armament Corp. and Remington Defense introduced a new .30-caliber cartridge designed to fit the standard AR profile, using the same bolt head and magazine and only changing the barrel. This new .30-caliber round was named .300 AAC Blackout, or simply .300 Blackout as it is affectionately known today.
This cartridge is perfect for both subsonic and supersonic loads, making the AR platform much quieter and more effective when suppressed. Supersonic .300 Blackout loads are used for hunting and home defense, as the .30-caliber AR-15 is seen as preferable in those situations over 5.56.
A subsonic .300 Blackout load matched with a suppressor is one of the quietest combinations on the market. Whether it is an AR platform, a bolt gun, or something more unique, the .300 Blackout is one of the most ideal cartridges to run suppressed, which is why it’s important to find the proper suppressor.
