There are plenty of great reasons to buy a used gun, and at Guns.com, we make the process easy. We’ve created this used gun buyer’s guide so you can easily find everything you need to know when considering purchasing a pre-owned gun.
If you’re new to buying used, you may have some questions. At Guns.com, we do our best to make the purchasing process seamless, whether you’re buying used or new, so we’ll try to answer your questions here.
1. Guns.com's Certified Used Collection: We have a special collection of Certified Used guns that go through our extensive inspection process (more on that below). That includes in-house experts who certify each Certified Used gun’s condition and value. Not every online website does.
2.Tons of Choices: Guns.com features sellers from around the country, giving you plenty of choices while also supporting gun ownership and gun culture in the United States.
We work to make things simple and to help connect you with gun shops and sellers from around the nation.
3.Supporting Local Shops: We support your local gun shop and FFL by helping them list their firearms, too. Even when buying through us, you’re supporting your local shop because we work directly with them to get their offerings to you online. This helps local shops boost their sales all across America.
5. See Before You Buy: We have our own in-house photographers to help accurately document the condition of our used firearms here at Guns.com. We also make it easy for other sellers to do the same on our website.
What Do Different Used Conditions Mean?
There’s a big comfort factor when you buy from us. We work hard to make sure all of our used guns are properly rated for their quality and condition before we list them on our website as Certified Used. We also make sure that all the other sellers who list items on our website can do the same.

Our pre-owned firearms are rated as follows:
Excellent: The gun may show slight overall wear. It may have only been fired a few times and is mechanically perfect.
Very Good: The gun will show normal wear; some stock and finish wear may be evident.
Good: The gun may show above-average/normal wear; there may be dings and/or scratches.
Inspection Checklist
Below is a sample inspection checklist similar to the one we use for our Certified Used handguns. You can use it for firearms you are looking to buy in person as well.
