Tactical Solutions has a new, easy-to-install bull barrel and stock kit for Ruger 10/22 Takedown rifles. The kit installs in a couple of minutes with common hand tools and provides shooters with a hybrid bull barrel that’s strong, light and accurate. Bull barrels also tend to run cooler and shoot more consistently, even with sustained use.

The 10/22 TD kit barrel is machined from 6061-T6 aluminum with a rifled inner stainless steel shank. This lined barrel system lets Tac-Sol cut the weight down to just 18 ounces for the barrel, about a third of the weight of traditional all-steel bull barrels, which is almost as much as more expensive carbon fiber hybrid barrels.

The total kit including the barrel, stock and forend weighs only 3.1 pounds, which means that complete upgraded Takedown rifles will weigh in the 4- to 5-pound range – maybe a little more with a magnified optic – depending on the configuration. Of course, an optic isn’t necessary as the Tac-Sol barrel is fit with fully-adjustable open sights and it has a high-visibility fiber optic insert up front.

In that weight range even with the bull barrel the Tac-Sol kit still delivers on what makes these Takedown rifles so great: their portability. Ruger’s 10/22 Takedown rifles are designed to be carried, packed away, for hiking, camping, trail riding and anything else where packing light and saving space is key.

These kits don’t include a receiver, of course, and must be used with Ruger 10/22 Takedown rifles or Charger pistols. Standard and aftermarket 10/22 receivers won’t work with these kits.

One nice last touch is the threaded barrel. Tac-Sol’s 10/22 TD bull barrel kit is threaded to accommodate 1/2-28 muzzle devices, suppressor mounts and suppressors. The barrels measure in at 16.5 inches long and have an outer diameter of .920 inches.

Tac-Sol is offering these kits with matte black or matte olive drab barrel finishes, with Tactical Solutions OM stocks by Hogue in synthetic black or ghillie green. Installations is as easy as watching the following installation guide.

The MSRP for these kits is a fairly affordable $369. Tac-Sol won’t be listing these on their website for direct sale to customers, only through their distributors. To find a seller near you head over to the Tactical Solutions website. Real-world prices should be a little less, too.

If you like the Ruger 10/22 Takedown but are looking for something a little more accurate and a lot cooler, this might just be the upgrade you’ve been waiting for.
