Testing the Russian Army's MP-443 Grach service pistol (VIDEO)

While on a trip to Eastern Europe, Larry Vickers got his mitts on the standard Russian military and LE pistol, the rarely seen (in the West) “PYa.”

Chambered in 9x19mm Luger, the Grach (Rook) was designed in the 1990s by Vladmir Yarygin and is commonly known as the Pistolet Yarygina or PYa after him. A large framed all-metal pistol with an 18-round mag, it was built as a replacement for legacy Cold War -era designs such as the PM Makarov thought it hasn’t completely replaced them.

And as Larry points out, it has a host of design features “borrowed” from Western combat handguns with a distinct Russian flair.
