Missouri-based CMMG has brought its well-liked MK47 "Mutant" concept over to the bufferless Dissent platform in what could be one of the coolest 7.62x39s headed for 2024.
When the original Key Mod-equipped MK47 was first introduced in 2014, it blended the common AK caliber and its Kalashnikov-style "rock and lock" banana mags to a platform that used Eugene Stoner's AR-based direct impingement gas system. The best (or worst, depending on who you talked to) of both worlds.
Fast-forward to 2022 and CMMG introduced the Dissent series, which uses the company's proprietary Compact Action Direct Impingement system that uses a shorter bolt and dual springs but doesn’t need a traditional AR-style buffer tube to work. Now, the company has blended the MK47 and Dissent platforms to give the public a gun with an AR-style feel and surface controls, Kalashnikov mags, and the ability to have either no stock (which is great for SBRs and pistols) or a side-folding stock. Like other Dissent models, it uses a non-reciprocating (and reversible) front side charger a la the HK MP5.

CMMG's plans to have four MK47 variants inbound for 2024 including two rifles – with either a 16.1-inch barrel or a 14.3-inch barrel with a pinned and welded SVD brake – and two similarly laid out but stockless pistols starting at $2,199. In addition, there will be six Cerakote color options for each variant. All use the company's Zeroed drop-in trigger system.
The overall length of the MK47 Dissent in its 16.1-inch barreled variant is 27.6 inches with the stock folded and 34 to 37 when extended.
Meanwhile, the overall length of the 14.3-inch P&W version is 26 inches with the stock folded and 32.5 to 35.5 when extended.
The pistol variants run 26.7 and 25.3 inches long, respectively.
Did we mention there are lots of colorways?
The MK47 Dissent has a bolt hold-open feature as well.
CMMG did a respectable job of getting some pre-release models of the MK47 Dissent into the hands of guntubers and MAC, the VSO Gun Channel, Mr. Big Kid, and 22Plinkster all have deep dives on the new platform if you have time to spare.
