FN is stepping up the size and capacity of its popular Reflex line of micro-compact 9mm pistols with the introduction Tuesday of the new Reflex XL MRD.
The double-stack Reflex debuted in April 2023 and replaced the handy but single-stack FN 503 in the company's lineup. It tested well in our reviews. Built to FN's high standards and reliable in use, it's one of the few pistols in its class that has an internal hammer, not a striker, which gives it a light and crisp trigger. Not optics-ready at launch, FN soon followed up with a Micro Red Dot, or MRD, model soon after.
Now, the new Reflex XL MRD delivers an update that stretches the pistol a bit for improved accuracy, ergonomics, and recoil control while upping the magazine capacity at the same time.
Using a 3.8-inch barrel, which gives the pistol a 6.75-inch overall length, the new FN Reflex XL MRD weighs 20 ounces, unloaded. This is about a half-inch longer and 2 ounces heavier than the standard Reflex.
The Reflex XL ships with a flush-fit 15+1 round magazine and an extended 18+1. Compare this to the standard Reflex's 15+1 round extended mag and a flush-fit 11+1 round mag with a pinky extension. State-compliant models ship with two flush-fit 10-rounders. Remember folks, elections matter.
It will be available in both black and FDE (tactical peanut butter), with a black trigger and surface controls on each. The pistol uses an optics-ready slide; compatible with micro red dot optics that share the Shield RMSc or Holosun 507k footprints. All models ship with a tritium front night sight with an orange painted ring paired with all-black squared U-notch rear sights.
All the Reflex XL models feature multiple internal passive safeties including a firing pin block, trigger safety, and fire control safety. Options will likely be available for pistols with a manual safety, as with the standard Reflex line.
The MSRP across the board on the new FN Reflex XL MRD line is $719.
