Firearms industry giant SIG Sauer recently held a high-octane event in New Hampshire to show off new guns, optics, ammo, and accessories, and Guns.com was there.
The SIG Next event, the first of its kind, filled the vacuum left in the industry by the company's absence from SHOT Show. SIG carved out time and space at its New Hampshire headquarters and brought in a mix of distributors, licensed dealers, and gun media to lay hands on a dozen new products for 2024.
Here is the rundown.
P365 Fuse
With the P365 micro 9mm platform not even a decade old, SIG has updated the platform with the new Fuse variant that includes all the features expected on a full-sized practical/tactical pistol.
The new SIG Sauer P365 Fuse gets its name, says the company, as it is the "fusion of capability and concealment," being still carry-sized while clocking in with a very full feature set that includes a removable magwell, nickel-plated flat-faced trigger, LXG grip module with interchangeable backstraps, optics-ready (RMSc footprint) slide with decent iron sights, and extended 21-round magazines.
The Fuse sports a DLC-finished 4.3-inch carbon steel barrel, which is over a half-inch longer than the 3.7-inchers seen on models like the P365 XMacro Tacops and P365 XL. This gives the pistol an overall length of 7.2 inches, making it the longest P365 in SIG's growing stable. Height with the standard 17+1 round (same as XMacro) flush-fit mag is 5.1 inches, while the overall width at the thickest point is 1.1 inches. (All photos unless noted: Chris Eger/Guns.com)
Romeo X Enclosed
The new Romeo X Compact, which runs on an RMSc footprint, is SIG's first fully enclosed "mailbox" or "lunchbox" micro pistol red dot and is based on the same DNA as the company's M17 MRD system. Its rugged 7075 aluminum housing is sealed and Argon-purged, keeping it fog-free. Meanwhile, a Beryllium Copper flexure arm takes the punishment and keeps it in service, backed by a lifetime "forever" warranty.
We are testing the new fully-enclosed Romeo X Compact on a SIG Fuse P365, which is milled as a direct mount for the optic. It has 15 illumination settings, including three for use with night vision.
MCX Spear in 6.8x51mm
For those looking to get as close as possible to the Army's ultra-modern Next Generation Squad Weapon rifle, the MCX Spear-based XM7, SIG Sauer has you covered.
The company plans to release the newest MCX Spear in 6.8x51 in both a 16-inch carbine and a 13-inch factory SBR, both with a standard Coyote finish, 1:7 twist cold-hammer-forged 5/8x24 TPI threaded barrels, folding telescoping Magpul SL-M stocks, and 20-round AR-10-style mags.
The carbine-length MCX Spear in 6.8x51 carries a 16-inch barrel for an overall length, with the stock extended, of 38.3 inches. Weight is 9.2 pounds empty and without optics, accessories, can, or sling.
SIG Hybrid Ammo
A cool thing about the 6.8x51mm variant of the MCX Spear is that SIG will have military contract overrun ammo available – something that is sure to be a hit with collectors.
The military overrun ammo on hand were ball cartridges using 113-grain copper solid bullets in 20-round boxes, 460-round cans, and 920-round crates. With a .330 ballistic coefficient and 3,200 FPS velocity out of a 16-inch barrel, these rounds spec out at 2,569 foot-pounds of energy at the muzzle. The case is a brass/stainless-steel hybrid that allows for increased muzzle velocity/energy compared to traditional brass.
P320 Flux Legion Raider
SIG Sauer has teamed up with Flux Defense to market a complete right-out-of-the-box factory Legion P320 pistol paired with a Raider X chassis and stabilizing brace.
Utah-based Flux Defense came on the scene in 2018 and their Raider, then improved Raider X chassis systems which turn a handgun into something very much in the PCC realm have been a "if you know, you know" kind of hit ever since. Case in point, when their promised P365 chassis hit the market a couple of weeks ago, it sold out in just eight minutes.
Now, SIG and Flux have partnered to create the P320 Flux Legion package, which blends all the famed Legion features familiar to fans of that line with one of the most exciting chassis systems in the pistol space.
The result gives the user a 60+1 capacity platform that compacts down to 10.9 inches and hits the scales right around the 3-pound mark (unloaded).
P226 XFive Reserve
The P226 has been a staple of SIG's for 40 years now, and the new XFive Reserve carries many of the top-tier features of the all-steel American XFive line, including an extended beavertail grip, undercut trigger guard, extended magwell, and a factory Delta Point Pro/RMR footprint, while still keeping suppressor-height XRay3 day/night sights. It also has an SAO system with a three-position AX3 trigger installed that is fully adjustable for pull weight and overtravel, while the trigger shoe is removable and adjustable for length of pull.
However, while the standard P226 XFive is all matte-brushed stainless, the new Reserve variant carries a high-polish DLC coating on its stainless slide and frame, a look complemented by a blacked-out set of intricate GridLOK grip panels. Further, to help tame recoil on this 48-ounce (!) 9mm, the slide is fitted with an integral compensator/expansion chamber akin to that seen on the P320 XTen Comp.
The P226 XFive Reserve may be the most "shootable" P226 SIG has ever made.
P226 40th Anniversary Throwback
With the venerable P226 celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, SIG Saueris saluting the now-classic design with a bit of throwback styling without sacrificing performance.
As the standard P226s cataloged by SIG today have evolved into something that outwardly looks a good bit different from the pistols of the 1980s and 90s, the company has gone retro for a limited run of 40th-anniversary guns that share all the same feature set of those original handguns to include an alloy frame, double-stack 15+1 round magazines, a double-action/single-action trigger system, and a 4.4-inch barrel.
Note the classic lines, with no accessory rail. Talk about right out of 1986!
P320 XFive SXG
Clocking in at some 50 ounces, the new steel-framed (not a misprint) SIG SauerP320competition pistol has Max Michel's stamp of approval.
The new P320 XFive SXG runs a 5-inch bull barrel, interchangeable 1911-style springs, and a solid-steel SXG grip module with G10 LOK grip panels. The newest pistol in SIG's catalog is built for competition use, and Michel, who is Team SIG's captain, plans to use it this season.
The new P320 XFive SXG has a very 1911-ish overall length of 8.5 inches, while its unloaded weight is 49.5 ounces. Note the bead-blasted finish on the stainless frame and slide. The slide is factory milled for a red dot (DeltaPoint Pro pattern direct mount) and has fiber-optic front sights and an adjustable rear sight.
Romeo 3Max
Designed in collaboration with 13-time National Champion, seven-time World Speed Shooting Champion, Guinness World Record Holder, ISPC World Champion, Carry-Optics Specialist, and Team SIG Captain Max Michel, the new Romeo 3Max-Pro is billed by the company as the "ultimate, competition-ready pistol reflex sight."
It certainly is nice.
The big screen open reflex sight uses a DeltaPoint Pro footprint, which is common to all P320s, and features a huge 31mm distortion-free aspheric glass lens. It runs a 3-MOA or 8-MOA dot with 15 brightness settings and co-witnesses with suppressor-height backup iron sights. For easy battery swaps, it has a side-mounted tray that deletes the need to remove the optic, carries a 20,000-hour runtime with a single CR1632 battery, is IPX-7 waterproof rated, and has both motion and magnetic activation features.
MSRP on the SIG Sauer Romeo 3Max-Pro is $699.
SIG Cross Magnum Sawtooth
Using a Cross Magnum series one-piece receiver with a 24-inch PROOF Research Carbon Fiber precision barrel, the new Sawtooth from SIG Sauer aims to deliver lightweight (8.5 pounds with magazine) performance and extreme accuracy in a high-country hunting rifle. Offered at first in 7PRC and 300PRC calibers, it features an ultra-light fully adjustable PRS stock, lightweight ARCA/MLOK handguard with dual sling points, and a Cerakote Moss finish.
The new SIG Cross Magnum Sawtooth series rifles are feature-rich, shipping with six-shot steel AICS mags, a SIG Adjustable Match trigger, and a Radial muzzle brake on 5/8x24 TPI threads. (Photos: SIG Sauer)
Echo Thermal
SIG's Electro-Optics division has been growing and evolving rapidly over the past several years. The company introduced its new Echo series of thermal sights at the Next event, which leverages the division's experience in blending advanced electronics with rugged optical systems. The Echo comes in several different sizes and includes clip-on sights, riflescopes, and monoculars.
Going past the glass itself, each Echo can wirelessly stream, record, and download live photos and video via a mobile app that allows users to even create custom ballistic profiles and tailored "shoot-to" solutions.
Echo thermal sights include both a 2-16x50 and a 1.5-12x35 (bottom) as well as the CV25 thermal clip-on, top, seen running in front of a SIG Romeo red dot.
SIG Connect Range Ecosystem
Taking a cue from systems like Mantis, SIG Connect blends an app that includes games, drills, and live fire range practice in real-time using a mobile device. It then offers the next step of giving the user access to a whole library of documentaries, podcasts, and more than over 100 SIG Academy classes to help sharpen their skills.
The SIG Connect app is super functional and is easy to figure out.
SIG Academy trainers had the program on hand to try out at the Next event and showed it off both with standard paper targets and the company's companion T300 Smart Target System.
While the SIG Connect platform doesn't need a T300 to work – you can run simple paper targets for free – the 6mm shielded smart target connects via Bluetooth to the user's mobile device to really amp up the experience.
