The AR-15 is probably the most popular firearm design in the United States. From sporting, target shooting, hunting, to self defense, the platform has been a hit with the American populace since its introduction. I have lost count of how many AR-15s I've shot, but I have compiled a basic list of some of my favorites.

Now, this is not to say that these are the only brands or models that are good. There are many good AR-15s on the market, and I have not shot every single one. This is a sliding-scale list, from inexpensive to very expensive, of AR-15s that I have put thousands of rounds through, and I trust that they will last and hold up.

With options at a range of price points, there's an AR here to fit your budget. I’m not saying these are the only good AR-15s at these price points, but I have had excellent experiences with all of them. I've highlighted a few of my top picks in the video below:

Daniel Defense DDM4 V7

Daniel Defense has earned its spot as a premier maker of some of the most respected AR-15s on the market. The DDM4 V7 is just one of its offerings that has earned a favored position with AR lovers. Featuring M-LOK slots along a minimalist Daniel Defense handguard, a rubberized cheek rest, and a collapsible stock that rocks into your shoulder for shooting, the gun is feature-filled. While not cheap, the V7 has a quality that more than matches the price point, and you can expect to skip upgrades unless you really want to take it to the next level.

FN M4 Carbine

One of FN’s standout offerings, the versatile and reliable FN M4 Carbine has become an icon in the world of firearms. It wasn’t originally designed by FN – those bragging rights belong to Eugene Stoner and Colt after him for advancing the design. However, FN put the rifle into the hands of many U.S. soldiers deployed on foreign soil during the last 20 years.

GRiffin ARmament MK2

Most folks know Griffin as the maker of some of the best suppressors on the market, but the company also makes some incredible firearms. The Griffin Armament MK2 has quickly risen in the ranks as one of my favorite AR-15s. Aside from being very accurate and reliable, the MK2 is offered in a bunch of different barrel lengths and configurations. These AR-15s can stand up to anything. They run amazing suppressed, and they are easily customizable.

LWRCI IC RIFLES

When it comes to high-end, American-made ARs, LWRCI rifles deliver on every level. These guns are in the upper tier for price, and for a good reason. The Maryland-based company produces variants like the LWRCI IC DI that can include features such as fluted barrels, advanced bolt-carrier groups, and light triggers. Accurate and reliable, we’ve tested and even kept the gun for personal use.

Colt M4 Carbines

Colt M4 Carbines are among some of the most trusted rifles on the planet. Countless law enforcement and military agencies turn to the storied manufacturer when it comes time to purchase duty rifles. Those same standards are passed down to the commercial offerings. All of this results in one top-selling rifles in America, year after year. When looking at the entire lineup, you can either go with a classic M4 or indulge in the modern amenities of something like the Colt M4 Carbine Federal Patrol. The best part is knowing you'll get the same great quality no matter what.

SMITH & WESSON M&P15 SPORT III

Smith & Wesson offers both an affordable and duty-ready option with its M&P 15 Sport III rifles. The big upgrades for the Sport III lineup include an M-LOK handguard, removal of the front sight post, and a smooth-operating mid-length gas system. These updates build upon a proven legacy in the M&P 15 Sport II and answer the demands of its customers. While the M&P designation stands for military and police, these rifles are among the most popular options on the commercial market.

RADICAL RF-15

For the money, the Radical RF-15 is an incredible deal. I have shot the living daylights out of one, and it just flat out works. I love the choice of B5 Systems furniture, the mid-length gas system, and the free-float M-LOK rail. I am not saying this is the best AR-15 ever made, but for the money, I have been madly impressed. If you’re just getting into AR-15s, or even if you have 13 already, this rifle is a great build for the price.

SPRINGFIELD ARMORY SAINT

Spend just a few minutes looking around the internet for a quality AR-15, and the name Saint is sure to pop up in your search. Springfield Armory released the Saint back in 2016, and it has gained a somewhat cult-like following since then. It did that by offering a high-value rifle right out of the box, with no add-ons or adjustments required. Even your basic no-extra-frills Saint features a chromoly vanadium barrel, a mid-length gas system with a pinned gas block, and a Melonite-coated bolt-carrier group made from Carpenter 158 steel. Described by Springfield as “upgraded out of the box,” the Saint delivers value up front.

SIG SAUER M400 SDI

SIG Sauer built the M400 SDI X-Series on its M400 DH3 platform, which was designed with the help of elite competition shooter Daniel Horner. The DH3 is quick and capable of precise accuracy, but its design doesn’t lend itself well to duty use, leading SIG to tailor a new and different tactical rifle in the M400 SDI. This M400 is a Recce (Reconnaissance) style of rifle build, light and capable of reaching longer distances than some of the shorter barrel lengths. This is a great candidate for hunting, taking on long hikes, or serving in a duty/training capacity.

Geissele Super Duty

This last rifle might surprise some folks, but it is one of the best-made AR-15s on the market. Geissele is known for its triggers, and for good reason, but the Super Duty MOD1-A is probably one of the highest quality ARs on the market. The rifle is now ambidextrous, and the barrel is designed to wear so that the 5,000th shot will be as accurate as the first. These rifles are designed to last, to work, and to perform. While they may be expensive, they are worth every penny, in my opinion.
